The Flippin' Frog® XL Complete Pool Care System is a two-cartridge water care kit designed for pools holding 5,000 to 10,000 gallons — the medium-sized backyard pool range that's too big for the standard Flippin' Frog system and too small to need a fully automated pool chlorinator. Snap the mineral and chlorine cartridges together inside the floating dispenser, drop it in the pool, and the system handles the daily sanitizing work on its own.
The fundamental selling point is the same as the smaller version: instead of measuring chlorine granules, tossing tabs in a floater, or making weekly trips to the pool store, you set a dial once and let two pre-filled cartridges do the work for weeks at a time. The mineral cartridge handles continuous antimicrobial protection for up to 6 months. The chlorine cartridge releases stabilized chlorine at the rate you set for 3–4 weeks, then flips over to tell you it's time to swap it. Together they need up to 50% less chlorine than a traditional chlorine-only program — gentler water, less smell, less wear on swimsuits.
The XL is the right starting product for the most common backyard pool size — typically the 18 to 24 foot above-ground pools that hold around 6,000–8,000 gallons. Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.
How do the pre-filled cartridges work?
Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?
Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.
