Description

The Flippin' Frog® Replacement Chlorine Cartridge is the consumable blue cartridge that pairs with the green mineral cartridge in the Flippin' Frog Pool System — the floating, self-regulating chlorinator built for above-ground and smaller in-ground pools 2,000 gallons and up. Each chlorine cartridge typically delivers weeks of sanitizing before the system flips over, signaling it's time for a replacement.

Compared to scooping granules or tossing tabs in a floater, the Flippin' Frog system is a fundamentally different approach to pool sanitizing. Pre-filled chlorine in a sealed cartridge releases at a controlled rate that you set with a simple dial — no overdosing, no underdosing, no daily fussing. The minerals on the green side of the system reduce the chlorine demand significantly, so the chlorine you do use goes much further. The result is less time spent on chemistry, more time spent in the pool.

Inside the blue cartridge is Trichloroisocyanuric acid (Trichlor) at 99% concentration — the same stabilized chlorine used in most pool tablet products. Stabilized means the chlorine has cyanuric acid built in to protect it from being burned off by UV sunlight, which is essential for outdoor pool use. The cartridge holds enough chlorine for weeks of sanitizing, releasing it gradually as your pool circulates water through the dispenser.

Why the Cartridge Format Matters: Pool sanitizing with loose tabs or granules requires constant judgment: how much, how often, where to add it, how long to wait before swimming. A pre-filled cartridge with an adjustable dial removes all of that. You set the dial once, and the cartridge releases chlorine at that rate for as long as it lasts. When it's empty, the floater flips over — telling you it's time for a new one. No more guessing, no more inconsistent chlorine levels.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x Flippin' Frog Replacement Chlorine Cartridge (blue)

Note: This is the chlorine cartridge only. It pairs with the green mineral cartridge (sold separately) inside the Flippin' Frog floating dispenser. If you don't have the dispenser, you'll need the complete Flippin' Frog Pool System or Flippin' Frog XL Pool System instead — those include the dispenser, the mineral cartridge, and a chlorine cartridge to get you started.

Key Features
  • Self-regulating chlorine — pre-filled cartridge releases at the rate you set, no measuring or daily dosing.
  • Adjustable output dial — tune the release rate up or down based on your pool size, temperature, and use.
  • Built-in flip indicator — the floating dispenser tips over when the cartridge is empty, giving you a visual cue across the pool.
  • Stabilized chlorine (Trichlor) — protected against UV breakdown for outdoor pool use.
  • Pairs with green mineral cartridge — together the two cartridges sanitize two ways and reduce overall chlorine consumption.
  • For pools 2,000 gallons and up — sized for above-ground pools and smaller in-ground pools.
  • Removable during pool use — pull the floater out while swimmers are in the pool, return it after.
How It Works

The Two-Cartridge System

The Flippin' Frog dispenser holds two cartridges that snap together: the blue chlorine cartridge and the green mineral cartridge. Water flows through the floating dispenser as it drifts around the pool, picking up minerals from one cartridge and chlorine from the other. The minerals condition the water and provide a first line of defense against bacteria, which means the chlorine cartridge can run at a lower release rate and still keep the water properly sanitized.

The Adjustable Dial

Each chlorine cartridge has a release dial on top that you set based on your pool's needs. Bigger pool, hotter weather, or heavier swim use means turning the dial up; smaller pool, cooler weather, or light use means dialing it down. The manufacturer's initial setting chart on the cartridge gives you a starting point. Test your water, adjust, and the system holds your free chlorine in a steady 0.5–1.0 ppm range.

The Flip Indicator

As the chlorine cartridge depletes, the floater becomes unbalanced and physically tips over in the water. When you see it flip — usually visible from across the pool deck — that's your cue to swap in a fresh chlorine cartridge. No test strips, no calendar reminders, just a glance.

Pro Tip: Don't Let It Sink— When the cartridge is spent and you're swapping in a new one, never let the old chlorine cartridge sink to the bottom of the pool. Concentrated trichlor sitting against a pool liner or finish can bleach a permanent spot. If the old cartridge still has chlorine remaining after the flip, place it back in the floater (or in the pool's skimmer) until it's completely empty before disposing.

Directions for Use
  1. Balance your pool water first. Keep pH (7.2–7.8), Total Alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness in their normal ranges.
  2. Align the arrows on the green mineral cartridge and the blue chlorine cartridge.
  3. Push the cartridges together and rotate to connect until they lock into the Flippin' Frog dispenser.
  4. Find your initial setting from the chart printed on the chlorine cartridge — based on pool gallons, water temperature, and typical bather load.
  5. Lock in the dial setting and place the dispenser in the pool.
  6. Attach the cord and tether to the pool ladder or another stable point so the dispenser doesn't drift into the skimmer.
  7. Maintain 0.5 to 1.0 ppm free chlorine. Test daily with Frog Test Strips for the first week or two, and adjust the dial setting if needed.
  8. Remove the dispenser when swimmers are in the pool — return it to the water afterward.
  9. When the system flips, replace the chlorine cartridge. Rotate to align the arrows, pull the cartridges apart, snap in a fresh blue cartridge.

Pro Tip: Follow the Label First— Always follow the safety instructions on the Flippin' Frog packaging and your pool's manual — they take precedence over any general guidance. Concentrated chlorine should never be mixed with other pool chemicals, and the cartridge should always be handled with dry hands.

FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
