Description

The FROG® Serene Cartridge Kit is the multi-pack refill for FROG's bromine-based Serene system — three bromine cartridges and one mineral cartridge, giving you approximately four months of water care supply for a single hot tub. It works with both the FROG Serene Floating System (the dispenser that floats in your spa) and the factory-installed FROG In-Line System built into many hot tubs.

The math is straightforward. Each Serene bromine cartridge lasts 2–4 weeks; the mineral cartridge lasts up to 4 months. So one mineral cartridge plus three bromine cartridges is roughly four months of supply for a typical hot tub — perfectly aligned with the mineral cartridge's lifespan. Buying this kit costs significantly less than buying the cartridges individually, which is exactly the point.

The chemistry itself is the proven FROG® Serene formula: FROG® minerals plus Time Released Bromine Technology work together to sanitize your water two ways. The minerals condition the water and provide a first line of defense against bacteria, which means the bromine cartridge can run on a low, steady release — typically up to 50% less bromine than a non-mineral bromine program. The result is soft water with much less odor, less wear on swimwear, and no daily spooning of bromine tabs into a floater.

Why a Kit Pays Off vs. Buying Separately: Most Serene owners burn through three bromine cartridges before a single mineral cartridge is spent. Buying them together in one kit is significantly cheaper than purchasing four single cartridges over the same four months — and it means you only have to remember to reorder once per quarter instead of every 3–4 weeks.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x FROG Serene Mineral Cartridge (blue) — lasts up to 4 months
  • 3 x FROG Serene Bromine Cartridges (yellow, 150 g each) — each lasts 2–4 weeks depending on use

Important: This is a cartridge refill kit— it does not include the floating dispenser. To use these cartridges, you need either the FROG Serene Floating System (sold separately) or a hot tub with the FROG In-Line System built into the filter compartment. Both setups use the same Serene cartridges.

Key Features
  • Four months of supply in one box — 1 mineral + 3 bromine cartridges, aligned to typical replacement cycles.
  • Up to 50% less bromine and chlorine — minerals share the sanitizing load, so the bromine level can run lower than a non-mineral program.
  • Time Released Bromine Technology — steady, gradual release holds a consistent sanitizer level instead of the spikes and dips of manual tabs.
  • Adjustable bromine output dial — turn the dial on the bromine cartridge to fine-tune release rate for your spa size and use.
  • Works in two setups — fits both the FROG Serene Floating System and the FROG In-Line System built into many hot tubs.
  • Hot tubs 150–600 gallons — sized for the typical residential hot tub range.
  • Cyanuric acid free — unlike stabilized chlorine programs, doesn't contribute to CYA buildup.
How It Works

The Mineral Cartridge (Blue)

FROG® minerals are released slowly into the water as it circulates through the dispenser or filter port. The minerals condition the water and provide a first line of defense against bacteria — which significantly reduces how much bromine your spa needs to stay sanitized. The blue mineral cartridge typically lasts up to 4 months.

The Bromine Cartridges (Yellow)

The Serene bromine cartridges use Time Released Bromine Technology to release a steady, low level of bromine as water flows through. Instead of the sharp peak you get from a bromine tab dissolving in a floater, the cartridge holds a consistent level over weeks. Each yellow cartridge has an adjustable output dial — usually started at setting 3 and tuned up or down based on your test strip readings. Each cartridge lasts 2–4 weeks depending on spa size, temperature, and bather load.

Why Bromine for Hot Tubs

Bromine is a popular choice for hot tubs specifically because it stays effective at higher water temperatures better than chlorine does, and it produces less of the harsh "chlorine smell" that many bathers associate with spa water. The Serene system layers FROG minerals on top of that bromine base to cut consumption further and add the silky-water benefit minerals provide.

Pro Tip: Start at Dial Setting 3— When you snap in a fresh bromine cartridge, set the dial to 3 as a starting point. Test your bromine level after a couple of days. If the reading is too low, turn the dial up by 1. If too high, turn it down. Most hot tubs find their sweet spot between 2 and 4 — but it depends on your gallons, water temperature, and how often you soak.

Directions for Use
  1. Balance your water first. Keep pH (7.2–7.8), Total Alkalinity (80–120 ppm), and Total Hardness in their normal ranges.
  2. Insert the blue mineral cartridge into your Serene Floating System or In-Line holder. Set the mineral dial to 6 (maximum) initially.
  3. Insert a yellow bromine cartridge into the same dispenser. Set the bromine output dial to 3 as a starting point.
  4. Place the dispenser in your spa (floating system) or close the cap on your In-Line port. Let the water circulate.
  5. Test bromine level after 1–2 days with a FROG test strip. Target range: 1–3 ppm. Adjust the bromine dial up or down based on the reading.
  6. Replace the bromine cartridge every 2–4 weeks depending on use. You'll typically use about 3 bromine cartridges per mineral cartridge.
  7. Replace the mineral cartridge every 4 months (or at your next water change, whichever comes first).
  8. Shock monthly. Add a monthly oxidizing shock to keep water fresh and clear, following your shock product's label dosing.

Pro Tip: Follow the Label First— Always follow the instructions printed on your spa's manual and the cartridge packaging — they take precedence over any general guidance. Spa size, bather load, and water source all affect how quickly cartridges are consumed.

Compatibility

Works with both:

  • FROG Serene Floating System — the dispenser that floats freely in your spa (sold separately)
  • FROG In-Line System — factory-installed on many hot tub brands, including Bullfrog, Caldera, Cal Spas, Catalina, Coast, Emerald, Hot Spot, Hot Spring, Leisure Bay, Marquis, Morgan, Pacific, Saratoga, Watkins, and others

Spa size: Hot tubs 150–600 gallons.

These cartridges are not interchangeable with the FROG @ease (SmartChlor®) line — Serene runs on bromine, @ease runs on chlorine, and the cartridges use different chemistry. They're also not for swim spas (which use larger swim-spa-specific cartridges).

Not sure if you have a Serene or @ease system? Check the color of your existing cartridges: Serene uses a blue mineral cartridge and yellow bromine cartridges; @ease uses different colors and a SmartChlor® cartridge instead of bromine. FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
