Description

FROG® 90-Day GoodBye Phos™ is a phosphate remover delivered in three pre-filled Drop 'n Go™ pods. Drop one in your skimmer basket each month, run the pump for 24 hours, then toss the empty pod. Three pods covers a full 90-day swim season for pools from 7,500 to 30,000 gallons.

Phosphates are the secret ingredient most pool owners never think about — but they're the difference between a pool that stays clear all summer and one that fights algae every couple of weeks. Phosphates are food for algae. When phosphate levels in your pool rise above a few hundred parts per billion, algae spores already in the water have everything they need to bloom — even if your chlorine looks fine on a test strip. Remove the phosphates, and algae has nothing to grow on.

Where most pool care products attack algae after it shows up, GoodBye Phos works upstream. It's algae prevention through starvation rather than algae treatment after the fact — which is generally cheaper, less disruptive to your water chemistry, and far less stressful than fighting a green-water outbreak in July.

Why Phosphates Are Becoming a Bigger Issue: Many U.S. municipalities have started adding more phosphates to their water systems to slow corrosion in aging municipal pipes. That means the water you fill your pool with already arrives with elevated phosphate levels — and rainwater, lawn fertilizer runoff, leaves, and decaying organic matter all add more. Phosphate accumulation in pools has become a more common problem in the last few years specifically because of this — which is exactly why a maintenance-style phosphate remover product like GoodBye Phos has a place in modern pool care.

What's in the Box
  • 3 x FROG 90-Day GoodBye Phos Pool Pods — one pod per month for 90 days of coverage

Note: Each pod is a sealed fabric pouch with dry, pre-measured phosphate remover inside. No measuring, no pouring. Pods dissolve in the skimmer within 24 hours of being added.

Key Features
  • Drop 'n Go™ pods — pre-filled fabric pouches, no measuring or pouring.
  • 90 days of coverage — three pods cover a full pool season at one pod per month.
  • For pools 7,500 to 30,000 gallons — one pod treats that range per dose.
  • Removes phosphates — the food source for algae growth. Less food, less algae.
  • Proactive algae prevention — works upstream of algae outbreaks rather than after they happen.
  • Dry concentrated formula — no liquid to spill, no risk of staining the deck or liner.
  • Improves filter efficiency — phosphate removal reduces overall organic load on your filtration system.
  • Compatible with any sanitizer — chlorine pools, salt pools, mineral systems, Flippin' Frog systems, all of them.
  • Swim 30 minutes after use — no extended waiting period before getting back in the water.
How It Works

Why Algae Needs Phosphates

Algae is a plant. Like all plants, it needs food to grow — and one of the primary nutrients algae feeds on is phosphate. Even a small amount of free phosphate in the water (anything above about 100–300 parts per billion) gives algae spores everything they need to multiply rapidly when conditions are right (warm water, sunlight, moderate chlorine levels). Removing the phosphates is like removing the food from the kitchen — algae spores stay in the water, but they can't grow into the visible bloom that turns pool water green.

How the Pod Removes Phosphates

The dry formula inside the GoodBye Phos pod dissolves in your skimmer over about 24 hours, distributing the phosphate remover through the pool's circulation system. The chemistry binds with free phosphates in the water and pulls them out of solution into a form your filter can capture. After a 24–48 hour reaction window, phosphate levels in the water drop measurably — and stay low for the next 30 days, until you drop in the next pod.

Three Algae Defenses, Each Doing Different Work

If you're shopping for algae prevention, it helps to understand how the FROG Pool Pods line handles algae from three different angles:

  • FROG Algae Gone — treats existing algae outbreaks (the "fix it now" product)
  • FROG 90-Day Algae Barrier — actively prevents algae growth with a copper-based formula
  • FROG 90-Day GoodBye Phos — starves algae by removing its food source

These products work in combination, not as alternatives. Many serious algae-prevention regimens use both Phos and Algae Barrier — Phos removes the food, Algae Barrier kills any algae that try to grow anyway.

Pro Tip: Don't Test Phosphates Right Away— If you test your water immediately after a GoodBye Phos pod is fully dissolved, you might get a misleading reading. The chemical reaction that binds and removes phosphates takes a full 24–48 hours to complete. Test after that window for an accurate phosphate level. If your starting phosphate level was very high (over 2,000 ppb), you may need a second pod beyond the normal schedule to fully bring it down.

Directions for Use
  1. Ensure your pool equipment is working properly — pump, filter, skimmer, and heater (if applicable). Good water flow is essential to the pod working as designed.
  2. If you recently used FROG Algae Gone or 90-Day Algae Barrier, wait 2 weeks before applying GoodBye Phos.
  3. Clean or backwash your filter according to the filter manufacturer's instructions, and empty the skimmer basket. Starting with a clean filter helps the chemistry work better.
  4. Insert one pod directly into the skimmer basket. No cutting, no opening — the whole pod goes in as-is.
  5. Run the pool pump for 24 hours after dropping the pod in. The pod dissolves during this period and distributes throughout the water.
  6. Remove the empty pod and discard in the trash (or recycle if your area accepts the fabric).
  7. Don't backwash or clean the filter for 2 weeks after adding the product. The filter needs that time to capture the phosphates the chemistry has pulled out of solution.
  8. Repeat every month — drop in a fresh pod every 30 days to keep phosphates from building back up.

Pro Tip: Follow the Label First— Always follow the safety instructions printed on the GoodBye Phos pouch — they take precedence over any general guidance. Keep pods sealed in their packaging until use, store in a cool dry place, and keep out of reach of children and pets.

Stacking with Other FROG Pool Pods? If you've recently used FROG Algae Gone or 90-Day Algae Barrier, wait at least 2 weeks before adding a GoodBye Phos pod. Stacking too many pool treatments in the same window can overwhelm your filter and your circulation system. Spacing them out gives each one room to do its job.

FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
