Description

SpaPure System Cleanse is a pre-drain plumbing purge that cleans the part of your spa you can't see or reach: the inside of the pipes, jets, pump, and heater. Over time those internal surfaces accumulate an invisible layer of biofilm and gunk — and this product lifts it off the walls so it flushes out when you drain.

Here's the thing most owners don't realize: you can balance and sanitize your water perfectly and still be fighting a losing battle, because contaminants are hiding in the plumbing. That hidden buildup is a constant source of cloudy water, foaming, odors, and rapid sanitizer loss — it keeps re-contaminating fresh water the moment you refill. Draining and refilling without purging first just pours clean water into dirty pipes.

System Cleanse fixes that. Run it before your scheduled drain-and-refill and it resets the spa's plumbing to like-new condition, so your fresh fill actually starts fresh.

Pro Tip: Use System Cleanse at every drain-and-refill, not just when there's a problem. Running it as a routine step each time you change the water (roughly every 3–4 months) keeps biofilm from ever getting established — which is far easier than purging out a heavy buildup that's been quietly growing for a year.

SpaPure®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaPure System Cleanse (1 pint / 16 fl oz, liquid — treats up to 750 gallons)
Key Features
  • Cleans hidden plumbing — reaches the pipes, jets, pump, and heater you can't see
  • Lifts biofilm and gunk — frees built-up contaminants so they flush out on draining
  • Resets the spa — restores internal plumbing to original condition for a clean fresh fill
  • Stops recurring problems — targets the hidden source of odors, foaming, and cloudy water
  • Biodegradable and non-foaming — purges thoroughly without a foam mess
  • Treats large spas — one 16 oz bottle treats up to 750 gallons
How It Works

The formula circulates through your entire spa system and breaks the bond between accumulated contaminants and the surfaces they cling to — the biofilm, oils, and residue lining the plumbing. Once that layer is lifted into the water, you drain the spa and it all goes out with the old water, leaving the internal surfaces clean.

Two things make it work properly: heat and circulation. The product performs best in warm water (90°F or above) — performance drops in cooler water — and it needs the jets and circulation running so it can reach every surface the water touches. That's why it's a pre-drain step rather than an everyday additive.

Pro Tip: Don't be alarmed by what you see. As the purge works, the water can turn cloudy or foamy and you may see debris or scum surface — that's exactly the point. It's the hidden gunk being pulled out of your plumbing, and it's the visible proof the product is doing its job before you drain it all away.

Directions for Use

Never mix different products together in the same bottle or pail. Add this product directly to the spa water. Use only on spas currently heated to 90°F (32°C) or above — performance decreases in cooler water.

  1. With the spa jets turned off, apply the entire contents (16 fluid ounces) directly to the spa. One bottle treats up to 750 gallons.
  2. Turn the spa jet motor on the highest setting for 5 minutes. If applicable, turn the spa diverters as the water circulates. For older spas that have never used this product before, run the jets for 10 minutes.
  3. Allow the spa to operate normally overnight (at least 8 hours). Do not use the spa during this time.
  4. Afterward, turn on the jets again as described above, then drain the spa as you normally would.
  5. Clean the spa surfaces, then rinse and degrease the filters with a spa filter cleaner.
  6. Refill immediately and resume normal spa startup and daily treatment.

Pro Tip: Clean your filter cartridge while the spa is empty and the purged water is gone. The biofilm you just flushed out of the plumbing collects on the filter, so pairing a System Cleanse with a filter clean (or a fresh cartridge) at the same drain means the whole system — plumbing and filter — starts the new fill genuinely clean.

Compatibility

SpaPure System Cleanse can be used in all spas and hot tubs, on any sanitizer system. Because it's a plumbing purge used right before draining rather than a product that stays in your water, it fits any routine regardless of how you sanitize.

It's the natural first step in your drain-and-refill process: purge with System Cleanse, drain, clean the surfaces, then refill and resume your normal startup — balancing with pH Up / pH Down and an alkalinity increaser, then re-establishing your sanitizer. Never mix it with other products in the same bottle or pail; add it directly to the spa water.

SpaPure® Brand FAQs

What is SpaPure, and who makes it?

SpaPure is a line of spa and hot tub water care products from Haviland Pool & Spa, a 100% employee-owned American manufacturer with more than 55 years of pool and spa experience. Haviland's Pool & Spa division began in 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and all SpaPure products are made in the USA.

Is SpaPure formulated specifically for spas, or is it pool chemicals in smaller bottles?

SpaPure is engineered specifically for spas and hot tubs. Spa water is a different challenge from pool water — far less volume, a much higher bather load per gallon, and hotter temperatures that accelerate everything. SpaPure's formulas are concentrated and dosed for that environment rather than scaled-down pool products.

Can I use SpaPure products with my chlorine, bromine, or salt water system?

Yes. SpaPure makes products for chlorine, bromine, and salt/mineral programs, plus balancers, shocks, clarifiers, and specialty treatments that work alongside any of them. Match the sanitizer-specific products to your system, and use the balancers and oxidizers regardless of which sanitizer you run. If you're not sure what fits your setup, a quick water test will point you to the right products.

Why buy SpaPure from an authorized dealer like Leisure Time Inc.?

Buying from an authorized dealer means you get fresh, correctly stored product — spa chemicals degrade with age and poor storage — backed by people who can actually help you use it. Leisure Time Inc. has carried spa water care for decades, and our team can match products to your specific spa and water chemistry. Chemicals sold far below market price on third-party marketplaces are often expired, mishandled, or gray-market, with no support behind them.

Why do some SpaPure products ship ground only and can't be returned by mail?

Certain spa chemicals — chlorine and bromine products, oxidizers, and some acids — are classified as hazardous materials by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Federal regulations require them to ship by ground rather than air and prohibit consumers from mailing them back. Products with this restriction are noted on the product page. If you have unopened chemicals you no longer need, you can return them in person at one of our showrooms or contact us about your options.

How do I know which SpaPure products my spa needs?

Start with a water test. Testing tells you what your water actually needs instead of guessing — which sanitizer level to adjust, whether to balance pH or alkalinity, and when to shock. You can test at home with SpaPure test strips, or bring a water sample to any Leisure Time showroom for free in-store testing and a product recommendation. You can also call us and we'll walk you through it.

About SpaPure®

SpaPure is a spa-specific water care brand made by Haviland Pool & Spa, a 100% employee-owned American company with more than 55 years in pool and spa chemistry. Haviland's Pool & Spa division began in 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as one of the early pioneers of modern pool and spa treatments, and today produces over 100 products across eight in-house brands. Because Haviland is employee-owned through an ESOP, the people who make and stand behind SpaPure have a direct stake in whether your water turns out right.

SpaPure is built specifically for spas and hot tubs — concentrated, fast-acting formulas designed for the small water volumes and high bather loads that make spa water harder to keep balanced than pool water. The line covers the full routine: sanitizing, shock and oxidation, water balance, clarifiers and enzymes, stain and scale control, and salt-system support — all proudly made in the USA.
