Description

SpaGuard Rapid-Dissolve Shock Oxidizing Tabs clear and refresh spa water the easy way — a single, fast-dissolving non-chlorine shock tab you drop in once a week. Every time someone uses a spa, they leave behind body oils, perspiration, and cosmetics. That non-living organic waste is what irritates skin, stings eyes, creates odors, and clouds the water. Shocking — oxidizing — burns it away and restores clarity and comfort. These tabs make that weekly step effortless.

Because they're built on a non-chlorine oxidizer (potassium peroxymonosulfate, or MPS), they shock the water without adding to your chlorine residual — so re-entry is a quick 15 minutes, not a long wait for chlorine to fall. The tabs are also buffered to prevent pH bounce, so a routine shock won't knock your water balance out of range. And the effervescent, rapid-dissolve format means each tab fizzes apart and distributes its oxidizer quickly and evenly.

The convenience is the point: one tab per roughly 300 gallons, once a week, and a single bottle covers about 12 weekly applications in an average-sized spa. It's the same non-chlorine oxidizing power in a grab-and-go tab.

Pro Tip: Don't be thrown by your test strips after shocking. Like other products containing potassium monopersulfate (MPS), this one can make most test methods read a false high total chlorine level for up to 72 hours after application. That's a known quirk of MPS, not a real chlorine spike — your free chlorine reading and your re-entry timing are what matter.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaGuard Rapid-Dissolve Shock Oxidizing Tabs — 1.25 lb (effervescent tablets)

Note: One bottle covers about 12 weekly applications in an average-sized spa. These tabs are a non-chlorine shock-oxidizer — they do not replace your sanitizer or algaecide. Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.

Key Features
  • Non-chlorine shock-oxidizer — oxidizes non-living waste and contaminants without adding chlorine.
  • Fast 15-minute re-entry — doesn't raise your chlorine residual, so the spa is ready quickly.
  • Buffered against pH bounce — shocks the water without knocking your balance out of range.
  • Effervescent rapid-dissolve tabs — fizz apart to disperse the oxidizer quickly and evenly.
  • Single-dose convenience — one 1″ tab per ~300 gallons, weekly. No measuring.
  • Long-lasting — one bottle covers about 12 weekly applications in an average-sized spa.
  • Restores clarity — removes the microscopic organic contaminants the filter misses.
  • Compatible with chlorine and bromine systems — works alongside your sanitizer.
How It Works

Sanitizing and shocking are two different jobs. Your sanitizer controls bacteria and keeps the water safe. Shocking oxidizes — it chemically breaks apart the non-living organic waste (body oils, perspiration, cosmetics) that sanitizer leaves behind and that turns water cloudy, smelly, and irritating.

These tabs do that oxidizing with potassium peroxymonosulfate, a non-chlorine oxidizer. Each effervescent tablet fizzes apart in the water and releases its oxidizer, which attacks organic contaminants and converts them into compounds that gas off or get filtered out — restoring clarity and comfort without adding any chlorine. Because there's no chlorine residual to wait out, re-entry is quick. The formula is also buffered, so shocking won't cause the pH swings ("bounce") that can follow a treatment, keeping the whole process low-disruption.

Pro Tip: Tabs vs. granular comes down to dosing style. These Shock Oxidizing Tabs are the drop-in, no-measuring option; SpaGuard Spa Shock-Oxidizer (granular) is the same non-chlorine MPS oxidizer you broadcast and measure. Both clear the water fast with quick re-entry — choose whichever fits how you like to maintain your spa.

Directions for Use

Routine Treatment

  1. Apply after your sanitizer has been added, when no one is in the spa.
  2. With a gloved hand and the pump on, apply 1 tab per 300 gallons directly to the filter compartment.
  3. Repeat weekly (or as needed) to oxidize contaminants.
  4. Re-entry can begin 15 minutes after application, as long as free chlorine or bromine is within the label-recommended range.

Heavy Use

  1. For spas with a higher bather load, apply 1 tab per 200 gallons twice a week.

Pro Tip: Always follow the dosing directions on your bottle's label, which take precedence over any general guidance. Add tabs with the pump running and the spa empty of bathers, and remember the 72-hour false-high total chlorine reading is normal with MPS — go by your free chlorine level for re-entry.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
