Description

SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate is a one-step sanitizer and shock for spa and hot tub water — a single granular product that keeps your water both safe and clear. Bromine is a popular choice for spas because it's effective in hot water and gentler on the senses than chlorine, with little of the sharp smell. This concentrate makes bromine care simple: it sanitizes, oxidizes, and clarifies all at once.

It dissolves completely without leaving any cloudy or insoluble residue behind, so you get pristine, clear water rather than the haze some products leave. By controlling the growth of bacteria and clarifying as it works, it keeps water clean and inviting with one easy-to-use product — no need to run a separate sanitizer and oxidizer. It can also be used as a super-oxidation (shock) treatment to rid the water of accumulated organic wastes.

Available in three sizes — a 14 oz bottle for lighter or seasonal use, a 2 lb bottle, and a 6 lb bottle for year-round owners who want the best per-dose value.

Pro Tip: Bromine works differently from chlorine — it builds a reserve "bromide bank" in the water that your shock reactivates. That's why a non-chlorine shock (like SpaGuard Spa Shock-Oxidizer) pairs so well with a bromine spa: it refreshes the bromine reserve without adding chlorine to the water.

What's in the Box

Available in three sizes — choose your size at checkout:

  • 1 x SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate — 14 oz (resealable bottle, granular)
  • 1 x SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate — 2 lb (resealable bottle, granular)
  • 1 x SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate — 6 lb (resealable bottle, granular)

Note: All three sizes are the identical formula — only the bottle quantity differs. Brominating Concentrate is your primary sanitizer for a bromine spa. Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store it in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.

Key Features
  • One-step sanitizer and shock — sanitizes and oxidizes in a single product; no need for two.
  • Fast-dissolving granules — dissolve quickly and completely.
  • No cloudy residue — dissolves without leaving insoluble residue, for pristine clear water.
  • Controls bacteria and clarifies — keeps water clean, safe, and clear.
  • No pre-dissolving needed — add it directly to the spa with the pump running.
  • Doubles as a super-oxidizer — can be used as a shock treatment to remove organic wastes.
How It Works

Bromine sanitizes by attacking and destroying bacteria and other microorganisms, along with the organic contaminants bathers leave behind. SpaGuard Brominating Concentrate combines two ingredients to do this efficiently: a bromide salt and an oxidizer that activates it. When added to the water, the oxidizer converts the bromide into active bromine — the working sanitizer — which then gets to work keeping the water safe and clear.

This two-in-one action is what makes it a one-step product: the same chemistry that sanitizes also oxidizes organic waste, so a single addition both protects and clarifies the water. Because it dissolves cleanly and completely, it does this without clouding the water. Used at a higher dose, it acts as a super-oxidation (shock) treatment, burning off accumulated organic wastes and refreshing the water.

Pro Tip: Maintain a bromine residual of 3–6 ppm for properly sanitized water, and build it gradually — add a measured dose, wait 15–20 minutes, and retest rather than dumping in a large amount at once. Sneaking up on your target keeps the water comfortable and avoids overshooting.

Directions for Use

Routine Maintenance

  1. Apply 1 teaspoon per 200 gallons every 15–20 minutes to reach a bromine residual of 3–6 ppm.
  2. Test regularly to determine the frequency of additional doses.
  3. Add as needed to maintain 3–6 ppm.

Super Oxidation

  1. Add 4 teaspoons per 200 gallons.
  2. May be needed nightly in a heavily used spa, or as infrequently as once a week in a moderately used spa.

Treatment of Visible Algae

  1. Brush the spa surfaces.
  2. Start the circulation system operating without air injection (if possible).
  3. Add 4 teaspoons per 200 gallons of water.
  4. Allow the system to circulate for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Treatment may be repeated in 24 hours if algae are still present.

Pro Tip: Always add the product with the pump running and the spa not in use, and wait until your bromine level returns to a safe range before getting in. Test before re-entry — especially after a super-oxidation dose.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
