FROG® Maintain is a single-pouch, pre-measured non-chlorine shock designed to keep spa water crystal clear with a quick monthly oxidizing treatment. One 2 oz pouch treats up to 250 gallons. Pour, circulate for 15 minutes, and the hot tub is ready to use again — no waiting hours for chlorine to dissipate.
The reason "maintenance shock" matters: even with the best sanitizer program, microscopic organic contaminants build up in spa water over time — sweat, body oils, cosmetics, hair products, dust, pollen. Sanitizer kills bacteria, but it doesn't fully eliminate these non-living contaminants, which gradually turn water dull, hazy, or smelly. Shocking is the process of oxidizing those contaminants out of the water, restoring sparkle and removing odors. Most spa owners shock monthly (or after heavy use) as a normal part of maintenance.
What makes FROG® Maintain different from a typical hot tub shock: it's chlorine-free. It uses Potassium Peroxymonosulfate (MPS) as the oxidizer — a different chemistry that does the cleaning work without adding chlorine to your water, and without leaving behind cyanuric acid (CYA) that gradually builds up in spas using dichlor shocks. What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?
FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?
Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.
How do the pre-filled cartridges work?
Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?
Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.
