Description

FROG® 90-Day GoodBye Cloudy™ is a pool clarifier delivered in three pre-filled Drop 'n Go™ pods. Drop one in your skimmer basket each month, run the pump for 24 hours, then toss the empty pod. That's the whole routine. Three pods covers your full 90-day swim season for pools up to 30,000 gallons.

The job of a clarifier is different from the job of a sanitizer. Your sanitizer (chlorine, bromine, minerals) kills bacteria; a clarifier polishes the water by gathering up microscopic particles too small for your filter to catch on its own — things like body oils, sunscreen residue, dust, pollen, and other fine debris that gradually accumulate even in well-sanitized pools. Left alone, those particles cause the dull, hazy look that makes pool water look "off" even when the chemistry tests fine. GoodBye Cloudy clumps those particles together into larger sizes your filter can finally grab, then the filter does the rest.

The traditional way to clarify a pool is with liquid clarifier — measuring caps, pouring around the perimeter, dosing weekly. GoodBye Cloudy replaces all of that with a fabric pod and a once-a-month schedule. Drop it in the skimmer. Walk away. Done.

Why Pods Beat Liquid Clarifier: Liquid pool clarifiers require precise weekly dosing, measuring caps, and careful pouring to avoid stains on the deck or liner. A pre-measured dry pod in a fabric pouch eliminates all of that. There's no liquid to spill, no math to do, no weekly schedule to remember — just one pod per month, dropped into the skimmer like a coffee pod into a brewer. Same clarifying chemistry, none of the hassle.

How It Works

The Particle Problem

Pool filters are designed to catch debris down to a certain particle size — sand filters catch the largest particles, cartridge filters catch smaller, and DE filters catch the smallest. But none of them catch everything. Microscopic particles from sunscreen, body oils, lotions, hair products, dust, pollen, and other organics slip through the filter media and stay suspended in the water. Individually they're invisible, but accumulated they cause that dull, lifeless look — water that's technically clean but doesn't look clean.

What the Pod Does

GoodBye Cloudy is a flocculant clarifier — a chemistry that causes microscopic particles to clump together into larger groups. Once particles are clumped into a larger size, your filter can finally catch them on the next pass of water. The dry formula inside the fabric pod dissolves in your skimmer over about 24 hours, distributing the clarifier through your pool's circulation system. From there it goes to work in the water itself.

The 24–48 Hour "Hazy Phase"

Here's something to know in advance so you don't worry: after you drop a pod in, your water may look hazier or milkier than usual for the first 24 to 48 hours. That's not a malfunction — it's the chemistry working. The clarifier is actively clumping particles, which makes them temporarily more visible before your filter picks them up. By day two or three, the water clears to a noticeably brighter, sparklier finish than where you started.

Pro Tip: Don't Backwash for 2 Weeks— After adding a pod, leave your filter alone for two weeks. Backwashing or cleaning the cartridge too soon flushes out the particles the clarifier just helped you collect — which defeats the whole point. If filter pressure rises 8–10 psi above its normal range during that window (which can happen because your filter is catching more debris than usual), clean or backwash, but otherwise let the filter do its work.

Directions for Use
  1. Test and balance your water first. Maintain pH at 7.2–7.8, Total Alkalinity at 80–120 ppm, and cyanuric acid at 20–80 ppm.
  2. Clean your filter and skimmer baskets before adding the pod. The clarifier works much better with a clean filter starting point.
  3. Insert one pod directly into the skimmer basket. No cutting, no opening — the whole pod goes in as-is.
  4. Run the pool pump for 24 hours after dropping the pod in. The pod dissolves during this period and distributes throughout the water.
  5. Remove the empty pod and discard in the trash (or recycle if your area accepts the fabric).
  6. Don't backwash or clean the filter for 2 weeks after adding the product — unless filter pressure rises 8–10 psi above its normal range, in which case clean it.
  7. Repeat every month — drop in a fresh pod every 30 days to maintain crystal-clear water for the full 90-day cycle.

Pro Tip: Follow the Label First— Always follow the safety instructions printed on the GoodBye Cloudy pouch — they take precedence over any general guidance. Keep pods sealed in their packaging until use, store in a cool dry place, and keep out of reach of children and pets.

Stacking with Other FROG Pool Pods? If you've recently used FROG Algae Gone or 90-Day Algae Barrier, wait at least 2 weeks before adding a GoodBye Cloudy pod. Stacking too many pool treatments in the same window can overwhelm your filter and your circulation system. Spacing them out gives each one room to do its job.

FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
