Description

The INSTANT FROG® Mineral Pool Water Purifier is a 6-month silver mineral cartridge that installs directly inside your in-ground pool's skimmer basket. Once it's in place, the cartridge releases FROG's patented silver mineral formula into the circulating water continuously — destroying bacteria, helping stabilize pH, and reducing the amount of chlorine your pool needs to stay clean. One cartridge covers in-ground pools up to 25,000 gallons for six full months.

The most important distinction to understand: INSTANT FROG is a mineral-only supplement, not a complete sanitizing system. You continue using your existing chlorine source — tabs, granules, a saltwater chlorine generator, or whatever you've been using — at a much lower level than before. The INSTANT FROG handles the antimicrobial work that minerals do better than chlorine alone, and your chlorine source handles the rest. The combined effect is up to 50% less chlorine consumption across the entire pool season.

This is the right FROG product for serious in-ground pool owners who already have a working chlorine setup and want to upgrade their water quality without rebuilding the whole system. It's a different scope of product from the floating Flippin' Frog systems — those are complete two-cartridge starter kits for smaller above-ground pools. This is a single mineral cartridge for larger, more sophisticated in-ground pools.

Why a Skimmer Cartridge Works for Bigger Pools: Floating dispensers are perfect for small above-ground pools because the dispenser circulates with the water and the pool isn't large enough to need more capacity. On an in-ground pool of 15,000–25,000 gallons, a floating dispenser would be undersized — you'd need multiple of them, and they'd drift to the same corner anyway. A cartridge installed at the source of your pool's circulation (the skimmer) doses the entire pool evenly through normal pump flow, which is the right approach at scale.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x INSTANT FROG Mineral Pool Water Purifier Cartridge — with built-in 6-month reminder dial

Note: This product is a mineral cartridge only. It does not contain chlorine and is not a complete sanitizing system. You'll continue using your existing pool chlorine source (chlorine tabs, granules, salt system, or other EPA-registered chlorine product) at reduced levels alongside the INSTANT FROG.

Key Features
  • 6-month service life — one cartridge covers a full pool season.
  • For in-ground pools up to 25,000 gallons — the largest pool size in the FROG residential lineup.
  • 50% less chlorine use — patented silver mineral formula shares the sanitizing load.
  • Installs in your skimmer basket — no floating dispenser, no plumbing changes, no electrical work.
  • Built-in reminder dial — turn the dial to mark 6 months from installation so you know when to replace.
  • pH stabilization — minerals help neutralize acids and keep pH in range with less monitoring.
  • Prevents premature equipment damage — reduced chlorine load is gentler on pumps, heaters, and pool surfaces over time.
  • Reduces chlorine odor — less chlorine in the water means less of the harsh "chemical smell" most pool owners associate with chlorinated pools.
  • Easier on swimsuits — lower chlorine reduces fading and material breakdown.
How It Works

Silver Minerals as a Sanitizer

The active ingredient in INSTANT FROG is silver chloride (0.5%) — silver is the patented mineral FROG uses across its product line. Silver ions are a known antimicrobial that destroys bacteria on contact. When water flows past the cartridge in your skimmer, the cartridge releases a controlled amount of silver minerals into the circulation. Those minerals spread throughout the pool and provide continuous antimicrobial protection between chlorine doses — which is exactly why your pool can run on so much less chlorine.

Why Pair Minerals with Chlorine?

Chlorine alone is what most pool owners use — and it works, but at a cost. Maintaining high enough chlorine to do all the sanitizing work creates the harsh smell, fading swimsuits, and skin irritation most people associate with "pool chemicals." Minerals destroy bacteria a different way than chlorine does. When you run both together, each one handles part of the work, and you can lower chlorine substantially without losing sanitizing power. The net result is gentler water, lower chemical costs, and a smaller environmental footprint.

The Skimmer Installation

The cartridge fits inside your pool skimmer basket — the same basket that catches leaves and debris. Every time your pool pump runs, water flowing into the skimmer passes through the cartridge before continuing through the filter and back into the pool. That's how the minerals reach every gallon of pool water without any extra equipment. Set the reminder dial on top of the cartridge to 6 months from today, and that's the entire installation.

Pro Tip: Keep Chlorine at 0.5 ppm Minimum— INSTANT FROG handles a significant share of sanitizing work, but it doesn't replace chlorine entirely. EPA regulations and pool safety guidelines require a free chlorine residual in any sanitized pool. Keep your free chlorine atat least 0.5 ppmfrom whatever chlorine source you normally use — that's the minimum needed to handle the things minerals don't (like organic contaminants from bathers). With INSTANT FROG in place, you'll need much less chlorine to hit that 0.5 ppm than you used to.

Directions for Use
  1. Balance your pool water first. Target pH between 7.2 and 7.8, and total alkalinity between 80 and 120 ppm.
  2. Shock the pool with a chlorine shock per the shock product's directions before installing INSTANT FROG. Starting with clean water lets the cartridge work as designed from day one.
  3. Set the reminder dial. Turn the dial on top of the INSTANT FROG cartridge by hand or with a coin to 6 months from today's date. This is your visual reminder of when to replace.
  4. Remove your skimmer cover to access the basket inside.
  5. Remove the skimmer basket handle if necessary, then insert the INSTANT FROG cartridge into the skimmer basket.
  6. If you use a suction-side automatic pool cleaner installed through the skimmer, you'll also need to use a vac plate — which usually comes with the skimmer or the automatic cleaner.
  7. Replace the skimmer cover.
  8. Maintain at least 0.5 ppm free chlorine in the pool using your existing chlorine source. Expect to use roughly 50% less chlorine than you did before INSTANT FROG was installed.
  9. Test water regularly and adjust chlorine and pH as needed.
  10. When the reminder dial reads "0," replace the cartridge. A typical 6-month cycle covers a full residential pool season.

Pro Tip: Follow the Label First— Always follow the safety instructions printed on the INSTANT FROG packaging and your pool's manual — they take precedence over any general guidance. Concentrated chlorine should never be mixed with other pool chemicals, and EPA registered chlorine sources are the only chlorine products approved for use alongside INSTANT FROG.

FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
