Description

FROG® @ease Test Strips are the dedicated water testing strips for the FROG® @ease sanitizing system. With a technology as unique as @ease, the test strips need to be unique too — and these are designed specifically to work with the way SmartChlor® Technology behaves in your spa. If you're running a FROG @ease system, these are the only test strips you should be using.

The reason matters: SmartChlor® intentionally holds your spa's free chlorine at a consistent, low level (typically 0.5–1.0 ppm). A standard hot tub test strip will read that as dangerously low and tell you to add chlorine — which would break the entire @ease system. FROG® @ease Test Strips understand that low chlorine reading is normal and instead give you what you actually need: a simple visual "out indicator" that tells you when the SmartChlor® cartridge needs replacing.

Each bottle contains 30 strips that test four things in about two seconds: the SmartChlor® level (so you know when to swap cartridges), plus pH, Total Alkalinity, and Total Hardness — the three water-balance factors you actually need to keep an eye on. Dip, shake, read. Done.

Why @ease-Specific Test Strips Matter: The most common mistake new @ease owners make is using their old test strips out of habit. Those strips will tell you the free chlorine is low (because it is low — that's the whole point of @ease) and prompt you to add chlorine that the system doesn't need. Using the right test strips isn't an upsell — it's how you read your water correctly.

Brand

FROG®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x Bottle of FROG @ease Test Strips (30 test strips per bottle)

Note: Replace the bottle when you run out, or roughly twice per year if you're testing the recommended once a week. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of direct sunlight to keep the chemistry on the pads accurate.

Key Features
  • Designed exclusively for FROG @ease — accurate readings for the way SmartChlor® behaves, not the way standard chlorine behaves.
  • Single color-match SmartChlor® indicator — one color on the bottle tells you when the cartridge needs replacing. As long as the test pad reads darker than the indicator color, your SmartChlor® is fine.
  • Tests four things in seconds — SmartChlor® level, pH, Total Alkalinity, and Total Hardness, all in about two seconds.
  • 30 strips per bottle — roughly six months of weekly testing.
  • No more chlorine confusion — eliminates the false-low-chlorine readings that standard test strips give @ease users.
How It Works

The Out Indicator

Instead of giving you a number for free chlorine (which would be misleading on an @ease system), the SmartChlor® pad on the strip is read against a single color shown on the bottle. The logic is simple: darker than the indicator color = SmartChlor® is still working. Lighter = time to replace the SmartChlor® cartridge. No interpretation, no scales, no judgment calls.

Water Balance Testing

The other three pads on each strip handle the water-balance factors that do still need monitoring even with @ease: pH (target 7.2–7.8), Total Alkalinity (target 80–120 ppm), and Total Hardness/Calcium Hardness (target 150–250 ppm). Each pad uses a standard color-chart match printed on the bottle.

Why Not Just Use Regular Test Strips?

Standard test strips test for free chlorine on a scale designed for traditional hot tubs running at 3–5 ppm. SmartChlor® holds your water at a steady 0.5–1.0 ppm — well below that scale's "ideal" range — because the minerals are doing the rest of the sanitizing work. Use a standard strip and it'll prompt you to dump in chlorine your spa doesn't need, which throws off the whole system. That's why @ease has its own strips.

Pro Tip: When the Color Goes Light, the Cartridge Has More to Give— When the SmartChlor® test pad first reads lighter than the indicator color, the cartridge isn't completely empty — it just means you're approaching the end. If you have a fresh cartridge on hand, swap right away. If not, you typically have a few days of buffer to get one. Don't wait until water gets cloudy to act.

Directions for Use
  1. Remove one strip from the bottle and close the bottle tightly.
  2. Dip the strip into the spa water for about one second.
  3. Remove and shake off excess water. Hold the strip horizontally to prevent run-off between pads.
  4. Wait two seconds, then read. Match the SmartChlor® pad against the single indicator color on the bottle. Compare pH, Alkalinity, and Hardness pads against the printed color charts.
  5. Replace your SmartChlor® cartridge when the SmartChlor® pad reads lighter than the indicator color.
  6. Adjust pH, alkalinity, or hardness as needed using your usual balancing products.
  7. Test at least once per week — and after any heavy use, weather event, or water addition.

Pro Tip: Store Smart, Test Accurate— Test strip accuracy depends on the chemistry on each pad staying fresh. Keep the bottle tightly closed between uses, out of direct sunlight, and never touch the pads with wet fingers. Most strip accuracy problems trace back to a bottle that was left open or got moisture inside.

These strips are specifically designed for FROG @ease systems. They are not the right test strips for traditional chlorine or bromine spas, FROG Serene (bromine) systems, or POOL FROG / Flippin' FROG products — those use the standard FROG test strips instead.

Running a different FROG system? If you're using FROG Serene (bromine) or a FROG pool product, you'll want the standard FROG Test Strips, not these. Our team can help you confirm the right strips for your system — just reach out.

FROG® Brand FAQs

What makes FROG® different from regular chlorine or bromine?

FROG uses minerals as a first line of defense, which lets it sanitize with a much lower level of chlorine or bromine than traditional systems. Minerals and sanitizer work together to keep water clean two ways at once. The payoff for you is water that feels softer, has little to no chemical smell, and takes far less hands-on maintenance.

What is "Fresh Mineral Water®"?

It's FROG's term for the water its systems create: cleaner, clearer, softer, and easier to maintain. The minerals condition the water and help hold pH steady, while the reduced sanitizer level handles the rest — so you get sparkling water that's gentler on skin, hair, and swimwear than heavily chlorinated water.

Do FROG® cartridges really reduce how much chlorine I use?

Yes. Because the minerals do part of the sanitizing work, FROG® systems need significantly less chlorine or bromine to keep water clean. The @ease line with SmartChlor® Technology, for example, can use a fraction of the chlorine of a conventional hot tub program while still keeping the water properly sanitized.

How do the pre-filled cartridges work?

Each FROG® cartridge comes pre-filled with the right mineral or sanitizer formula — there's nothing to measure or mix. You simply drop or snap the cartridge into its holder or dispenser, set it, and let it do the work as water circulates. When a cartridge is spent, you swap in a fresh one. That's the "no mess, no guess, no stress" approach
FROG® is known for.

Will FROG® products work with my pool, hot tub, or swim spa?

FROG® makes systems for all three, in sizes ranging from small hot tubs to large in-ground pools, so there's almost always a fit. Some products are model-specific (for example, @ease cartridges sized for particular spa brands), so it's worth confirming the right version for your equipment. If you're unsure which FROG® product matches your setup, reach out and we'll help you pin it down.

How often do I replace the cartridges, and do I still need to shock?

Replacement timing depends on the product and your usage — mineral cartridges generally last for months, while sanitizer cartridges are swapped more often (the system's indicator tells you when). You'll still add a periodic shock to keep water freshly oxidized, but typically far less often than a fully manual program requires. Always follow the schedule printed on your specific product's packaging.

About Frog®

For more than 25 years, FROG® has been making pool, hot tub, and swim spa care dramatically simpler — without asking owners to compromise on water quality. Made by King Technology, FROG built its reputation on one patented idea: combine the natural cleaning power of minerals with a low, steady level of sanitizer, so your water stays clean using far less chlorine or bromine than traditional methods.

The result is what FROG calls Fresh Mineral Water® — water that's cleaner because it fights bacteria two ways (minerals plus a low level of sanitizer), clearer because balanced minerals help hold pH steady, and softer because those same minerals condition the water for a gentler feel on your skin. And it's easier, because nearly everything comes in pre-filled, drop-in cartridges. No measuring, no mess, no guesswork.

That convenience-first philosophy runs through the entire FROG lineup — from the SmartChlor®-powered @ease systems for hot tubs and swim spas, to the bromine-based Serene line, to the POOL FROG and Flippin' FROG systems for pools of every size, plus a full range of support chemicals and problem-solvers. Whatever you're sanitizing, there's a FROG product sized for it, and they're all built around the same goal: less time on maintenance, more time enjoying the water.
