Description

The Kozy Heat Bayport 36 is the smaller, even shallower sibling of the Bayport 41 — and at just 15 inches of unit depth with a 15-7/8 inch framing depth, it's the shallowest gas fireplace in the entire LTI Kozy Heat catalog. Engineered specifically for retrofit installations and constrained wall depths where even the Bayport 41 is too deep, the Bayport 36 fits in most existing wood-burning fireplace openings and in any 2x6 stud wall with minimal furring. Available in three distinct configurations (Log, Birch Log, or Glass), plus a Millivolt standing-pilot variant for off-grid or backup-power scenarios, the Bayport 36 is the most installation-flexible option in Kozy Heat's premium lineup.

The Shallowest Gas Fireplace in the Kozy Heat Catalog

15 inches of unit depth. 15-7/8 inches of framing depth. There is no shallower premium gas fireplace in the Kozy Heat catalog. If you have a retrofit installation where the Bayport 41's 17-inch depth is still too deep, or you're working with an existing masonry fireplace opening at the shallow end of typical dimensions, or you're trying to add a fireplace to a wall where every inch of framing buildout would eat into precious interior space — the Bayport 36 fits where nothing else in the Kozy Heat premium lineup can.

The depth comparison across the Kozy Heat catalog:

Kozy Heat Model Framing Depth Required
Bayport 36 (this product) 15-7/8 in. (shallowest in catalog)
Bayport 41 17-1/2 in.
Callaway 40, Callaway 50 ~22 in.
Bellingham 38 ~22 in.
Bellingham 44 ~22+ in.
Bellingham 52 28-3/4 in.

Where this matters most:

  • Replacing a smaller wood-burning fireplace — older or smaller masonry fireplace openings are sometimes 14 to 18 inches deep. The Bayport 36 fits without rebuilding the masonry recess where the Bayport 41 and deeper fireplaces wouldn't.
  • Townhomes, condos, and tight floor plans — every inch of wall depth matters when interior square footage is limited. The Bayport 36's 15-7/8" framing depth is meaningfully less invasive than 22"+ on architectural fireplaces.
  • Standard 2x6 stud walls without major buildouts — fits with minimal furring (perhaps just an additional 2x4 furring layer) rather than a substantial chase or framing buildout
  • Smaller rooms where smaller proportions read correctly — at 35-3/4" wide × 32" tall, the Bayport 36 is sized for residential bedrooms, primary suite sitting areas, smaller living rooms, and home offices where a larger fireplace would dominate visually.

Kozy Heat Gas Fireplace FAQs

What makes Kozy Heat gas fireplaces different from wood fireplaces?

Gas fireplaces offer easier operation, less mess, and more consistent control than a traditional wood-burning fireplace. There is no wood hauling, ash cleanup, or manual fire starting.

What is a direct vent gas fireplace?

A direct vent fireplace draws combustion air from outside and vents exhaust outdoors. This makes it a popular choice for modern installations.

Can I install a Kozy Heat gas fireplace in a room without a chimney?

Often, yes. Many direct vent gas fireplaces can be installed without a masonry chimney, but installation depends on vent routing, clearances, local code, and the selected model.

Are Kozy Heat gas fireplaces for heat or decoration?

Both. Many homeowners choose them for supplemental heat, while others use them as a design centerpiece with realistic flames and decorative media.

Can I choose between traditional and modern styles?

Yes. Kozy Heat offers traditional log-style fireplaces as well as modern linear and contemporary designs.

Should I choose a gas fireplace or gas insert?

Choose a gas insert if you already have an existing wood-burning fireplace you want to convert. Choose a gas fireplace if you are building a new fireplace location or replacing a full fireplace system.
