Description

SpaGuard Enhanced Shock is a multipurpose, fast-dissolving granular shock that does the work of four products at once. It's a chlorinated formula built around dual oxidizers, and beyond simply shocking the water it also clarifies, flocculates fine particles so your filter can catch them, and buffers pH so the treatment won't push your water balance out of range. Four jobs, one scoop, no premixing.

Every time someone uses a hot tub, they leave behind more than they realize — body oils, lotions, sweat, makeup, and other organic residue accumulate with every soak. Your sanitizer keeps bacteria in check, but it isn't built to burn off that organic load. When it builds up, you get the familiar warning signs: cloudy water, a dull surface, lingering odors, and that stinging feeling in the eyes. That's not a sanitizer problem — it's water that needs to be oxidized, or "shocked."

Enhanced Shock attacks that buildup quickly and restores clarity and comfort. And because it produces a lower chlorine residual than conventional chlorine shocks, the water is typically ready to enjoy again in about 15 minutes — a real difference when you want to use your spa, not babysit it. SpaGuard is one of the most trusted names in spa water care, and Enhanced Shock is a cornerstone of a simple, reliable maintenance routine.

Available in two sizes — a 2 lb bottle for lighter or seasonal use and a 6 lb bottle for year-round owners who want the better per-treatment value.

Pro Tip: Shocking isn't just for problem water. Making it a regular weekly step — not just a rescue when the water turns cloudy — keeps organic buildup from ever reaching the point where you can see or smell it.

What's in the Box

Available in two sizes — choose your size at checkout:

  • 1 x SpaGuard Enhanced Shock — 2 lb (resealable bottle, granular)
  • 1 x SpaGuard Enhanced Shock — 6 lb (resealable bottle, granular)

Note: Both sizes are the identical formula — only the bottle quantity differs. Enhanced Shock is a multipurpose shock and oxidizer that works alongside your chlorine or bromine sanitizer, not in place of it. Keep the bottle tightly sealed between uses and store it in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.

Key Features
  • Four functions in one — oxidizes (shocks), clarifies, flocculates, and buffers pH in a single product.
  • Dual oxidizers — two complementary oxidizers work together for stronger, more complete oxidation than a single-oxidizer shock.
  • Fast re-entry — lower chlorine residual than conventional chlorine shocks, so the spa is typically ready to use again in about 15 minutes.
  • pH buffered — formulated to hold pH in range and prevent the "pH bounce" that often follows shocking.
  • Built-in clarifier and flocculant — gathers fine suspended particles that slip through the filter so the water looks visibly clearer and brighter.
  • No premixing required — dissolves quickly and completely; broadcast it straight into the water with the pump running.
  • Destroys eye irritants and odors — removes the organic compounds behind that "used water" smell and eye sting.
  • Works with every common sanitizing system — chlorine, bromine, ozone, and ionization.
How It Works

Sanitizing and shocking are two different jobs. Your sanitizer — chlorine or bromine — controls bacteria and keeps the water safe. Shocking oxidizes: it chemically breaks apart the non-living organic waste that sanitizer leaves behind, the body oils and residue that turn water cloudy and smelly over time.

Enhanced Shock attacks that buildup with two oxidizers working in tandem, converting organic contaminants into compounds that gas off or get filtered out. At the same time, its clarifier and flocculant agents bind the smallest suspended particles into clumps large enough for your filter to trap on the next few cycles — which is why the water doesn't just smell cleaner, it visibly clears. The built-in pH buffer keeps the whole process from disturbing your balanced water, so you aren't chasing pH afterward.

Pro Tip: SpaGuard makes two shocks, and they're easy to mix up. Enhanced Shock(this product) is achlorinated multipurpose shock — it adds a measure of chlorine as it oxidizes, which is why you test and wait before re-entry. SpaGuardSpa Shock is the non-chlorine oxidizer. Both clear the water; reach for Enhanced Shock when you want oxidizing power plus a chlorine boost.

Directions for Use
  1. Test and adjust spa water pH to 7.2–7.6 before applying this product.
  2. Apply when the spa is not in use, with the pump running.
  3. Broadcast the full treatment dose across the surface of the water at one time. Follow the label dosage for your bottle (generally about 2–3 tablespoons per 500 gallons for routine weekly maintenance).
  4. Do not allow undissolved product to settle on bleachable surfaces. In water below 70°F, brush the surface after application to speed dissolving.
  5. Before re-entering, test your sanitizer level. Do not re-enter until chlorine reads 5 ppm or less (or bromine 8 ppm or less) — typically about 15 minutes.

Pro Tip: After shocking, leave the cover open for 15–20 minutes with the pump running. This lets the oxidized contaminants gas off instead of getting trapped under the cover, and helps the water clear faster.

Compatibility

Enhanced Shock is designed to work alongside the sanitizing system you already use:

  • Chlorine spas — ideal pairing; the dichlor base complements a chlorine sanitizing routine.
  • Bromine spas — fully compatible; oxidizes the bromide bank and clears the water.
  • Ozone systems — compatible; works as a supplemental oxidizer alongside ozone.
  • Ionization systems — compatible as the oxidizing component of a mineral/ion-based program.
  • All spa surfaces — formulated for use with all types of spa surfaces.

Important: Enhanced Shock is an oxidizer, not a sanitizer. It does not replace your regular sanitizer or algaecide — it works with them.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
