Description

SpaGuard Rapid-Dissolve Chlorinating Tabs deliver chlorine sanitizing and clarifying in one convenient tab — a simple way to keep spa water clean and clear without juggling separate products. Each one is a compressed, erosion-style tablet of dichlor (the chlorine sanitizer) and alum (a clarifier), and it dissolves within just a few minutes of being placed in the filter compartment.

Sanitizer is the most important part of spa care — it's what controls the bacteria that thrive in warm water and keeps the water safe. These tabs handle that job while doing something extra: the clarifying component coats the filter cartridge and helps it grab hold of the microscopic contaminants that normally slip through, so the water stays not just safe but visibly clear. One tab, applied weekly, maintains a proper free chlorine residual of 3–5 ppm and keeps the water clean and sparkling.

It's a smart fit for owners who want chlorine sanitizing in the easiest possible form — drop a tab in the filter compartment and let it do the work. One important note: these tabs are not for every spa (see Compatibility).

Pro Tip: Because the clarifier (alum) coats your filter cartridge to do its job, clean the cartridge regularly with a chemical filter cleaner (SpaGuard Filter Cleaner). A cartridge loaded with clarifier residue can't keep capturing contaminants — regular cleaning keeps both the sanitizing and the clarifying working.

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaGuard Rapid-Dissolve Chlorinating Tabs — 1.25 lb (erosion-style tablets)

Note: These tabs are a chlorine sanitizer plus clarifier. They are not for spas with non-traditional surfaces such as cedar, or bleachable surfaces like soft-sided tubs (see Compatibility). Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.

Key Features
  • Quick-dissolving sanitizer and clarifier — dichlor plus alum in one erosion-style tab.
  • Maintains 3–5 ppm free chlorine — the proper sanitizing range for spa water.
  • Kills and prevents bacteria — reliable chlorine sanitizing.
  • Built-in clarifier — coats the filter cartridge to capture microscopic contaminants for clearer water.
  • Single-dose convenience — one 1″ tab per ~300–600 gallons (1,200–2,700 liters), weekly.
  • Made for spas and swim spas — quickly responds to the challenges of smaller bodies of water.
How It Works

Chlorine sanitizes by attacking and destroying bacteria and other microorganisms, along with the organic contaminants bathers leave behind. These tabs use dichlor, a stabilized form of chlorine well suited to the hot, aerated conditions of a spa. Compressed into an erosion-style tablet, the dichlor dissolves quickly in the filter compartment and establishes a free chlorine residual — the reserve of active sanitizer that keeps protecting the water between doses, maintained at 3–5 ppm.

The second ingredient, alum, is a clarifier. As the tab dissolves, the alum coats the filter cartridge and acts like a fine net, grabbing hold of the microscopic particles that would otherwise slip through and cloud the water. So a single tab both sanitizes and clarifies — keeping the water safe and crystal clear at once. Because the clarifier works by coating the cartridge, keeping that cartridge clean is key to sustained performance.

Pro Tip: Tabs vs. granular is about how you like to dose. These Chlorinating Tabs are the drop-in-the-filter, no-measuring option with a clarifier built in; SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate (granular dichlor) is the broadcast-and-adjust option for precise control. Run a bromine spa instead? SpaGuard Brominating Tabs are the bromine-side equivalent.

Directions for Use
  1. Apply 1 tab per up to 600 gallons of spa water on a weekly basis to maintain a free chlorine residual of 3–5 ppm (the label provides the range for your spa's volume, roughly 300–600 gallons per tab).
  2. Place the tab directly in the filter compartment — these tabs are designed to be applied there, where the clarifying component can coat the cartridge.
  3. Chemically clean the filter cartridge regularly so it keeps capturing contaminants effectively.
  4. Test your water and re-dose weekly to maintain the 3–5 ppm range.

Pro Tip: Always follow the dosing directions on your bottle's label, which take precedence over any general guidance. Confirm your sanitizer level is in a safe range before getting in, and double-check your spa isn't a cedar, non-traditional, or soft-sided/bleachable tub before using these tabs.

Compatibility

Chlorinating Tabs are for chlorine spa care, with an important surface restriction:

  • Chlorine spas — this is your primary sanitizer in tab form.
  • Spas and swim spas — formulated for smaller bodies of water.
  • Traditional spa surfaces — suitable for standard acrylic and similar surfaces.
  • NOT for non-traditional surfaces such as cedar — do not use.
  • NOT for bleachable surfaces like soft-sided tubs — do not use.

Important: Maintain a free chlorine residual of 3–5 ppm and keep your water balanced (pH and alkalinity in range) for the sanitizer to work its best. Confirm your spa surface type before use — these tabs are not for cedar, other non-traditional surfaces, or bleachable soft-sided tubs.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
