Description

SpaGuard Filter Cleaner deep-cleans your spa filter cartridge, removing the body oils, dirt, grime, and scale that ordinary rinsing leaves behind. Your filter is the hardest-working part of your spa — it's constantly pulling contaminants out of the water. Over time those oils and minerals embed themselves deep in the filter's fabric, where a garden-hose rinse simply can't reach.

When that buildup clogs the cartridge, everything downstream suffers: water circulation drops, filtration gets less effective, the water turns cloudy more easily, and you end up using more chemicals to compensate. A properly cleaned filter reverses all of that. SpaGuard Filter Cleaner breaks down the embedded gunk so water flows freely again, your filtration works the way it should, and your cartridge lasts longer before it needs replacing — which keeps money in your pocket.

It works on all types of spa filter cartridges and can be used two ways: a quick spray-on clean, or a deeper overnight-style soak for heavily loaded filters.

Pro Tip: Keep two cartridges in rotation. While one is soaking in Filter Cleaner, run the spare so your spa is never down. Rotating cartridges also gives each one time to dry fully between cleanings, which helps the fabric shed oils more effectively.

SpaGuard®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaGuard Filter Cleaner (liquid concentrate)

Note: Filter Cleaner is a concentrate — for the soak method it's diluted 1 part cleaner to 3 parts water. A single bottle cleans many cartridges. Keep it tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry place; mix only with water, never with other chemicals.

Key Features
  • Removes oils, dirt, grime, and scale — clears the buildup embedded in the filter fabric that rinsing alone can't.
  • Restores filtration and circulation — a clean cartridge moves water freely and filters more effectively.
  • Extends filter life — regular cleaning lengthens filter cycles and delays cartridge replacement.
  • Reduces chemical use — a well-functioning filter keeps water clearer, so you spend less on other chemicals.
  • Two application methods — fast spray-on clean or a deeper 1-hour soak for heavy buildup.
  • Works on all spa filter types — compatible with all common spa cartridge filters.
How It Works

A spa filter cartridge is made of pleated fabric that traps contaminants as water passes through. The problem is that body oils and lotions are sticky — they coat the fibers and bind dirt and scale into a film that a quick rinse only removes from the surface. Underneath, the cartridge stays clogged, and a clogged filter restricts flow and filters poorly.

SpaGuard Filter Cleaner uses degreasing agents that break down and lift that oily film out of the fabric, all the way into the pleats. Once the binding oils are dissolved, the trapped dirt and scale rinse away freely, leaving the cartridge clean down to the fibers. The result is restored flow, better filtration, and a cartridge that performs like it should — for longer.

Pro Tip: Clean your filter on a schedule — every 4 to 6 weeks is the typical recommendation. Waiting until you notice cloudy water or weak jets means the buildup is already affecting performance. A standing reminder keeps your filter ahead of the problem.

Directions for Use

Remove the filter element and rinse off excess debris with a garden hose (moderate pressure). Then choose one method:

Spray Method (Quick Clean)

  1. Spray the product directly onto the filter.
  2. Allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Light brushing may be needed for heavy oil, dirt, or scale.
  3. Rinse the element clean with maximum garden-hose pressure.
  4. Reassemble the filter and resume normal operation.

Soak Method (Deep Clean)

  1. Mix a solution of 1 part Filter Cleaner to 3 parts water in a clean container.
  2. Place the cartridge into the solution and soak for 1 hour.
  3. Rinse the element clean with maximum garden-hose pressure.
  4. Reassemble the filter and resume normal operation.

Pro Tip: After rinsing, let the cartridge air-dry before reinstalling if you can. A dry filter seats better and lets you spot any tears, frayed pleats, or a collapsed core that mean it's time for a replacement rather than another cleaning.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
