Chlorine sanitizes by attacking and destroying bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms in the water, along with the organic contaminants bathers leave behind. SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate is a stabilized form of chlorine (sodium dichlor), which means it includes a built-in stabilizer that shields the active chlorine from being destroyed too quickly by heat and aeration — exactly the conditions found in a hot tub.

Added directly to circulating water, it dissolves fast and establishes a chlorine residual — the reserve of active sanitizer that keeps protecting the water between doses. Because it's pH neutral, it does this without the pH swings that come with some other chlorine types, so your water balance stays steadier. And since it oxidizes as well as sanitizes, the same product that keeps the water safe also helps keep it clear.

Pro Tip: Build up your chlorine in small, spaced-out doses rather than one big addition. Adding a measured amount, waiting 15–20 minutes, and retesting lets you hit your target 3–5 ppm without overshooting — and keeps the water comfortable to use.

Routine Maintenance

1. Add 1/2 teaspoon per 100 gallons (5 tsp per 1,000 gallons) every 15–20 minutes until a chlorine residual of 3–5 ppm is achieved.
2. Test regularly to determine the frequency of additional doses.
3. Add as needed to maintain 3–5 ppm.

Superchlorination

1. Add 1 teaspoon per 100 gallons (1/4 cup per 1,000 gallons).
2. May be needed nightly in a heavily used spa, or as infrequently as once a week in a moderately used spa.

Pro Tip: Always add the product with the pump running and the spa not in use, and wait until your chlorine level drops back to a safe range before getting in. Test before re-entry — especially after super chlorinating.
