Description

SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate delivers the proven sanitizing power of chlorine in a fast-dissolving granular form built specifically for spas. Sanitizer is the single most important part of spa care — it's what keeps the water safe by controlling the bacteria and microorganisms that thrive in warm water. Chlorinating Concentrate is a simple, reliable way to maintain that protection.

What makes it especially convenient is that it does two jobs at once: it acts as both a sanitizer and an oxidizer, so a single product keeps the water both safe and clear without needing a separate routine product for each task. It's also pH neutral, which means maintaining your sanitizer won't constantly drag your pH out of range — a real advantage over harsher chlorine types. And because it dissolves quickly, it can be added directly to the spa with no pre-dissolving.

It's a stabilized chlorine, so the active is protected against being burned off quickly by heat and aeration — a good fit for the demanding conditions of a hot tub. Available in three sizes — a 14 oz bottle for lighter or seasonal use, a 2 lb bottle, and a 5 lb bottle for year-round owners who want the best per-dose value.

Pro Tip: Because Chlorinating Concentrate is both a sanitizer and an oxidizer, it streamlines a chlorine spa down to fewer products. You still want to keep a shock on hand for heavy bather loads, but for day-to-day sanitizing this single product covers both bases.

What's in the Box

Available in three sizes — choose your size at checkout:

  • 1 x SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate — 14 oz (resealable bottle, granular)
  • 1 x SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate — 2 lb (resealable bottle, granular)
  • 1 x SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate — 5 lb (resealable bottle, granular)

Note: All three sizes are the identical formula — only the bottle quantity differs. Chlorinating Concentrate is your primary sanitizer for a chlorine spa. Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store it in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.

Key Features
  • Granular stabilized chlorinator — stabilized chlorine protected against rapid burn-off in hot, aerated spa water.
  • Sanitizer and oxidizer in one — controls bacteria and clears organic waste, so there's no need for two separate products.
  • pH neutral — maintains your sanitizer without constantly pulling pH out of range.
  • Fast acting and quick dissolving — gets to work right away.
  • No pre-dissolving needed — add it directly to the spa with the pump running.
  • Works with every common sanitizing system — chlorine, bromine, ozone, and biguanide.
How It Works

Chlorine sanitizes by attacking and destroying bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms in the water, along with the organic contaminants bathers leave behind. SpaGuard Chlorinating Concentrate is a stabilized form of chlorine (sodium dichlor), which means it includes a built-in stabilizer that shields the active chlorine from being destroyed too quickly by heat and aeration — exactly the conditions found in a hot tub.

Added directly to circulating water, it dissolves fast and establishes a chlorine residual — the reserve of active sanitizer that keeps protecting the water between doses. Because it's pH neutral, it does this without the pH swings that come with some other chlorine types, so your water balance stays steadier. And since it oxidizes as well as sanitizes, the same product that keeps the water safe also helps keep it clear.

Pro Tip: Build up your chlorine in small, spaced-out doses rather than one big addition. Adding a measured amount, waiting 15–20 minutes, and retesting lets you hit your target 3–5 ppm without overshooting — and keeps the water comfortable to use.

Directions for Use

Routine Maintenance

  1. Add 1/2 teaspoon per 100 gallons (5 tsp per 1,000 gallons) every 15–20 minutes until a chlorine residual of 3–5 ppm is achieved.
  2. Test regularly to determine the frequency of additional doses.
  3. Add as needed to maintain 3–5 ppm.

Superchlorination

  1. Add 1 teaspoon per 100 gallons (1/4 cup per 1,000 gallons).
  2. May be needed nightly in a heavily used spa, or as infrequently as once a week in a moderately used spa.

Pro Tip: Always add the product with the pump running and the spa not in use, and wait until your chlorine level drops back to a safe range before getting in. Test before re-entry — especially after super chlorinating.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
