Bromine sanitizes by destroying bacteria and other microorganisms along with the organic contaminants bathers leave behind. SpaGuard Brominating Tabs are built on BCDMH (1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin), a compound that releases active bromine slowly as the tablet dissolves. That slow release is the key difference from granular products: instead of a quick dose you broadcast and adjust, the tablets meter out sanitizer steadily over hours, holding a consistent bromine residual in the water.

Placed in a floating dispenser or feeder, the tablets dissolve at a controlled rate that you can fine-tune with the dispenser's adjustable vents. The result is reliable, continuous sanitizing with less intervention. Used at a higher quantity, the same chemistry serves as a super-oxidation (shock) treatment, burning off accumulated organic wastes and refreshing the water.

Start-Up

1. Clean your spa surfaces, then back-flush and clean the filters.
2. Ensure your spa's pH and alkalinity are within the proper ranges.
3. Add 1 tsp of Brominating Tabs per 200 gallons of spa water (via your dispenser).
4. Circulate the spa or hot tub water for 15 to 20 minutes.

Weekly Maintenance

1. Using spa test strips, test your spa's water and adjust when needed.
2. Ideal total alkalinity range: 80–120 ppm.
3. Ideal pH range: 7.2–7.8.
4. Ideal active bromine range: 3–6 ppm.

Super Oxidation

1. Clean your spa surfaces, then back-flush and clean the filters.
