Description

SpaGuard Spa Phosphate Remover is a fast-acting liquid that immediately reduces high phosphate levels in spa and hot tub water. Phosphates are an invisible problem — you can't see or feel them — but at high levels they cause real trouble, the biggest being calcium phosphate scale that builds up on your equipment and surfaces. This product keeps phosphates in check so that scale never gets the chance to form.

Where do phosphates come from? They sneak in through fill water, lawn and garden runoff, and many common spa products and cleaners. As they accumulate, they create conditions for scale and can interfere with how well the rest of your water care performs. By stripping phosphates back down to a safe level, Phosphate Remover protects your spa's equipment from calcium phosphate buildup and helps your overall water care work the way it should.

It's a simple weekly addition — and an effective spot treatment when a test shows phosphates have climbed too high. Recommended phosphate levels in a spa are below 125 ppb.

Pro Tip: Don't be alarmed if the water turns cloudy after dosing — that's the product working, binding phosphates into particles your filter can remove. Following up with SpaGuard Water Clarifier and running the filter clears it quickly.

SpaGuard®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaGuard Spa Phosphate Remover — 1 Pint (16 oz liquid)

Note: The routine dose is just 1 fl oz per 500 gallons weekly, so a pint lasts a long time. Phosphate Remover is a maintenance product, not a sanitizer or balancer — use it alongside your regular care routine. Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry place.

Key Features
  • Immediately reduces phosphates — a fast-acting liquid that lowers high phosphate levels right away.
  • Prevents calcium phosphate scale — protects equipment and surfaces from phosphate-driven scale buildup.
  • Protects spa equipment — keeps scale from forming where it causes the most damage.
  • Supports overall water care — controlling phosphates helps the rest of your chemistry perform.
  • Easy weekly maintenance — simple 1 fl oz per 500 gallon dose, with a higher spot-treatment dose for problem levels.
  • Liquid formula — pours straight into the water; no pre-mixing.
How It Works

Phosphates dissolve invisibly into spa water from fill sources, runoff, and a surprising number of common spa chemicals. On their own they don't look like much, but when phosphate levels are high and calcium is present, the two combine into calcium phosphate scale — a deposit that coats heaters, jets, and surfaces and is tough to remove once it forms.

SpaGuard Spa Phosphate Remover binds with the dissolved phosphates and pulls them out of solution, converting them into fine particles that clump together and can be captured by your filter. Because the phosphates are physically removed from the water rather than just neutralized, the conditions for scale formation are eliminated at the source. The temporary cloudiness you may see after dosing is simply those particles forming — a sign it's working — and clears once the filter (helped by a clarifier) removes them.

Pro Tip: Test before you treat. Phosphates are invisible, so a phosphate test is the only way to know your level. Routine weekly dosing keeps them low; a higher spot dose is for when a test reveals a spike (1,000 ppb or more). Aim to keep levels below 125 ppb.

Directions for Use
  1. Add 1 fl oz of Phosphate Remover weekly per 500 gallons of spa or hot tub water.
  2. For high phosphate levels of 1,000 ppb or higher, add 3 fl oz and test for phosphate levels the following day. Recommended phosphate levels are below 125 ppb.
  3. Follow immediately with SpaGuard Water Clarifier, per its label directions, and run the filter for 2 hours.
  4. Clean the cartridge after treatment is complete.

Note: This product may cause the water to become cloudy, which is a normal sign that it's working. To clear the water quickly, use SpaGuard Water Clarifier following label directions, with the filter running. Cleaning or rinsing the filter may be necessary to help clear the water.

SpaGuard® Brand FAQs

What is SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is a professional-grade brand of spa and hot tub water care products — sanitizers, shocks, balancers, and water enhancers — formulated specifically for spas rather than adapted from pool chemicals. The line is designed to work together as a complete system for clean, clear, comfortable water.

Who makes SpaGuard?

SpaGuard is part of the BioGuard family of water care brands, a long-established name in pool and spa chemistry. That backing means the formulas are professionally developed and tested, with a reputation built over decades in the industry.

What water care systems does SpaGuard offer?

SpaGuard supports three complete care methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system, and the Soft Soak TRIO system. Each is a coordinated set of products, so you can match your routine to the sanitizer you prefer.

What makes SpaGuard different from generic spa chemicals?

SpaGuard products are engineered for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, and they're built to work together as a system. That coordination delivers more reliable, repeatable results than mixing unrelated single products.

What is ALEX water testing?

ALEX is SpaGuard's exclusive computerized water-analysis tool used by its dealers. A quick water sample produces a precise read on your spa's chemistry and a tailored recommendation, taking the guesswork out of what to add and when.

Why buy SpaGuard from an authorized dealer?

SpaGuard dealers are trained on the brand's products and water-care technology, so you get expert advice alongside genuine product. They can run an ALEX analysis, troubleshoot issues, and recommend exactly what your water needs.

About SpaGuard®

SpaGuard is a professional-grade line of spa and hot tub water care products engineered specifically for spas — not pool chemicals repackaged for a smaller tub. Built around a simple, proven approach (balance the water, sanitize it, shock it, and keep it clear), SpaGuard products are formulated to work together as a system across three care methods: chlorine, bromine, and the Soft Soak TRIO system.

Because the formulas are made for the unique demands of hot, agitated, heavily used spa water, owners get reliable, repeatable results with less guesswork. SpaGuard is also backed by a trained dealer network and ALEX water-analysis tools, so when a water issue does come up, there's an expert-tested path to fixing it. It's a trusted choice for anyone who wants clean, comfortable, sparkling water with a maintenance routine they can actually keep up with.
