Filter contamination falls into two categories, and Instant Filter Cleaner handles both:

• Organic load — body oils, lotion, sunscreen, sweat, hair products, dust. These are the soft contaminants that turn filter pleats gray-brown.

The cleaner uses a combination of surfactants (which break down oily organic deposits) and mild acids (which dissolve mineral scale) to lift both types of contamination off the filter media. Spraying onto a pre-wetted filter is what makes the no-soak approach work — the wet pleats allow the cleaner to penetrate fully into the filter material in five minutes, where a dry filter would shed the spray before it could work.

Rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure nozzle and the filter is ready to reinstall, often in better condition than when you bought it.

Pro Tip: Aim the rinse nozzle at the inside of the pleats and let the water blast outward through the filter. That's the opposite of the direction water flows in your spa, which means you're pushing trapped debris back out the way it came in. Rinsing the wrong direction just packs the gunk deeper into the pleats.

Cleaning Procedure

1. Power down the spa at the breaker for safety while you have the filter out.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from its housing per your spa's owner manual.
3. Rinse off loose debris with a garden hose — knock down any visible chunks before applying cleaner.
4. Saturate the filter with water — wet pleats absorb the cleaner more evenly.
5. Spray Instant Filter Cleaner generously over the entire surface of the filter, working into the pleats. The color indicator helps you confirm coverage.
6. Wait 5 minutes for the cleaner to penetrate and break down contamination.
7. Rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure nozzle (or a dedicated filter cleaning wand). Direct the spray inside-out through the pleats to push debris back out the intake side.
8. Repeat for heavily soiled filters — a second pass clears the deeply embedded contamination the first pass loosened.
9. Let the filter air-dry if possible — a dry filter performs better than a wet one for the first few hours after reinstall.
10. Reinstall and restore power. Run the spa for 30 minutes before reuse to confirm normal circulation.

The "Rotate Two Filters" Approach

Most experienced spa owners keep two filter cartridges and rotate them:

• Filter A is installed in the spa, working
• Filter B is clean and air-dried, sitting on a shelf
• Every 2 weeks, swap A and B. Clean the freshly removed filter and let it dry before its next rotation.
