Description

SpaPure Oxidizing Shock is an oxygen-based, non-chlorine spa shock built around potassium monopersulfate (MPS). Every time someone soaks, they leave behind sweat, body oils, lotions, cosmetics, and dead skin — a layer of organic bather waste that has nothing to do with bacteria but everything to do with cloudy, dull, tired-looking water.

That waste is also what quietly drains your sanitizer. Left alone, your chlorine or bromine spends itself burning off oils and organics instead of doing its real job — controlling bacteria. Shocking with an oxidizer clears that organic load so your sanitizer stays free to protect the water, and so it stops getting used up before its time.

Because SpaPure Oxidizing Shock is oxygen-based rather than chlorine-based, it does the cleanup without the side effects: it won't raise your chlorine, calcium hardness, or cyanuric acid, and it won't bleach or fade your shell, pillows, or cover. And it works fast — the water is ready to use again about 15 minutes after you apply it.

Pro Tip: Shock is not sanitizer. SpaPure Oxidizing Shock is an oxidizer — it cleans up organic waste, but it does not sanitize on its own. Keep running your regular chlorine or bromine for sanitizing, and use this weekly to keep that sanitizer working at full strength. The two work as a team.

Brand

SpaPure®

What's in the Box
  • 1 x SpaPure Oxidizing Shock (2.2 lb resealable container, granular)
Key Features
  • Chlorine-free oxidation — powered by potassium monopersulfate, so it cleans without adding chlorine
  • Restores water clarity — clears the haze and dullness left behind by bather waste
  • Eliminates non-microbial contaminants — oils, sweat, lotions, and other organics that sanitizer alone struggles to keep up with
  • Won't disturb your water balance — adds no chlorine, calcium hardness, or cyanuric acid
  • Surface-safe — used on all spa surfaces with no risk of fading or bleaching shells, pillows, or covers
  • Fast turnaround — the spa can be used again about 15 minutes after application
How It Works

The active ingredient, potassium monopersulfate, releases active oxygen into the water. That oxygen chemically breaks down the organic compounds bathers leave behind — the oils and waste that cloud water and consume sanitizer — and converts them into harmless byproducts that filter out or gas off. The result is clearer water and a sanitizer that isn't fighting an uphill battle.

Unlike a chlorine-based (dichlor) shock, an oxygen shock does its work and leaves nothing extra behind. There's no chlorine spike to wait out and, importantly, no cyanuric acid added to the water.

Pro Tip: That "no cyanuric acid" point matters more than it sounds. Chlorine-based shocks slowly build cyanuric acid (CYA) in the water, and too much CYA locks up your chlorine and makes it sluggish. Because SpaPure Oxidizing Shock adds none, it's especially smart for spas you don't drain and refill often — you can shock as often as you need without that slow creep.

Directions for Use

Apply weekly, after heavy use, or any time the water looks slightly hazy or dull. Shock more often if the spa sees frequent or heavy use. Always broadcast the product uniformly over the surface of the water with the pump running and the spa filtering.

  1. Turn on the circulation system.
  2. Add 1.5 ounces (about 2 tablespoons) for every 200 gallons of water, broadcasting it evenly over the surface.
  3. Continue circulating for 15 minutes. The spa may be used 15 minutes after application.

Pro Tip: Leave the cover open for the 15 minutes the spa is circulating after you shock. That lets the oxidized contaminants gas off into the air instead of getting trapped under the cover — and it's the simplest way to knock out that faint "used water" odor that tells you a shock was overdue.

Compatibility

SpaPure Oxidizing Shock is the oxidizing/shock step in your routine and slots in alongside virtually any sanitizing system. It pairs with chlorine and bromine programs, and it complements mineral and salt-based systems as the weekly oxidizer that keeps organic waste from building up.

It's safe on all spa surfaces — acrylic shells, headrests, pillows, and covers — so there's no need to worry about fading or bleaching the way you might with harsher products. For a complete weekly routine, use it together with SpaPure test strips to confirm your sanitizer and balance before and after shocking.

SpaPure® Brand FAQs

What is SpaPure, and who makes it?

SpaPure is a line of spa and hot tub water care products from Haviland Pool & Spa, a 100% employee-owned American manufacturer with more than 55 years of pool and spa experience. Haviland's Pool & Spa division began in 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and all SpaPure products are made in the USA.

Is SpaPure formulated specifically for spas, or is it pool chemicals in smaller bottles?

SpaPure is engineered specifically for spas and hot tubs. Spa water is a different challenge from pool water — far less volume, a much higher bather load per gallon, and hotter temperatures that accelerate everything. SpaPure's formulas are concentrated and dosed for that environment rather than scaled-down pool products.

Can I use SpaPure products with my chlorine, bromine, or salt water system?

Yes. SpaPure makes products for chlorine, bromine, and salt/mineral programs, plus balancers, shocks, clarifiers, and specialty treatments that work alongside any of them. Match the sanitizer-specific products to your system, and use the balancers and oxidizers regardless of which sanitizer you run. If you're not sure what fits your setup, a quick water test will point you to the right products.

Why buy SpaPure from an authorized dealer like Leisure Time Inc.?

Buying from an authorized dealer means you get fresh, correctly stored product — spa chemicals degrade with age and poor storage — backed by people who can actually help you use it. Leisure Time Inc. has carried spa water care for decades, and our team can match products to your specific spa and water chemistry. Chemicals sold far below market price on third-party marketplaces are often expired, mishandled, or gray-market, with no support behind them.

Why do some SpaPure products ship ground only and can't be returned by mail?

Certain spa chemicals — chlorine and bromine products, oxidizers, and some acids — are classified as hazardous materials by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Federal regulations require them to ship by ground rather than air and prohibit consumers from mailing them back. Products with this restriction are noted on the product page. If you have unopened chemicals you no longer need, you can return them in person at one of our showrooms or contact us about your options.

How do I know which SpaPure products my spa needs?

Start with a water test. Testing tells you what your water actually needs instead of guessing — which sanitizer level to adjust, whether to balance pH or alkalinity, and when to shock. You can test at home with SpaPure test strips, or bring a water sample to any Leisure Time showroom for free in-store testing and a product recommendation. You can also call us and we'll walk you through it.

About SpaPure®

SpaPure is a spa-specific water care brand made by Haviland Pool & Spa, a 100% employee-owned American company with more than 55 years in pool and spa chemistry. Haviland's Pool & Spa division began in 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as one of the early pioneers of modern pool and spa treatments, and today produces over 100 products across eight in-house brands. Because Haviland is employee-owned through an ESOP, the people who make and stand behind SpaPure have a direct stake in whether your water turns out right.

SpaPure is built specifically for spas and hot tubs — concentrated, fast-acting formulas designed for the small water volumes and high bather loads that make spa water harder to keep balanced than pool water. The line covers the full routine: sanitizing, shock and oxidation, water balance, clarifiers and enzymes, stain and scale control, and salt-system support — all proudly made in the USA.
