Description

Leisure Time Fast Gloss is a reactive-silicone polish and cleaner formulated specifically for spa and hot tub shells. It does two jobs in one application: it cleans the acrylic surface of waterline scum, dull film, and residue, and it lays down a durable protective gloss coating that repels water, resists chemicals, and shields the shell from the UV, temperature, and chemical exposure that gradually dull and degrade acrylic over time. One application lasts up to 6 months, making this a twice-a-year, drain-day product that keeps a spa shell looking showroom-new for the life of the tub.

The acrylic shell is the part of your spa you look at every single day — and it's also the part that quietly degrades from the inside of the waterline outward. Sunlight oxidizes and dulls the acrylic surface. Sanitizer chemicals and high water temperatures slowly etch and cloud it. Body oils and minerals build a stubborn scum band right at the waterline that ordinary cleaning never fully removes. Over a few years, a shell that started glossy and vibrant becomes dull, chalky, and stained — and once acrylic loses its surface gloss, it holds dirt and scum even more aggressively, accelerating the decline.

Fast Gloss reverses and prevents that cycle. The reactive silicones bond to the acrylic surface, restoring depth of gloss while creating a slick, water-repellent barrier that scum and minerals can't easily grip. Applied to the empty, dry shell at every drain-and-refill, Fast Gloss keeps the surface easy to clean, resistant to waterline buildup, and protected from the environmental forces that age acrylic — extending both the beauty and the functional life of the most visible part of your spa.

Pro Tip: Fast Gloss is a drain-day product — it must be applied to a completely dry shell, which means the only practical time to use it is during your regular drain-and-refill, after the spa is empty and dried but before you refill. Build it into your quarterly drain routine alongside Jet Clean (plumbing purge) and Filter Clean (cartridge deep soak). One drain-day, three products, comprehensive top-to-bottom maintenance — and a shell that looks brand new when the fresh water goes back in.

How It Works

Spa shells are made primarily of cast acrylic — a durable, glossy plastic that's ideal for the job but vulnerable to three slow-acting threats. UV radiation oxidizes the acrylic surface, breaking down the polished top layer and creating microscopic roughness that scatters light, which is why old shells look dull and chalky. Spa chemicals and high temperatures gradually etch and cloud the surface through repeated exposure. And body oils and dissolved minerals accumulate at the waterline, forming a scum band that bonds to the increasingly rough surface and becomes harder to remove over time. Each of these problems makes the others worse — a duller surface grips more scum, and a scummier surface holds more chemical residue.

Fast Gloss uses reactive silicone chemistry to address all three at once. Unlike a simple wax or wipe-on cleaner that sits loosely on top of the surface, reactive silicones chemically bond to the acrylic, forming a thin, durable, glass-smooth protective layer that becomes part of the surface rather than a coating that washes off. That bonded silicone layer does several things: it fills in the microscopic roughness that makes oxidized acrylic look dull (restoring depth of gloss and visual clarity), it creates a hydrophobic water-repellent surface that scum and minerals can't easily adhere to, and it forms a sacrificial barrier that takes the UV and chemical exposure that would otherwise hit the acrylic directly.

Because the silicone is reactive and bonds to the surface, a single application lasts up to 6 months — far longer than a wipe-on polish. The protective coating is "unaffected by sunlight, temperature, or spa chemicals," which is exactly why it can survive months of submersion in heated, sanitized water while continuing to protect the shell underneath. When you notice waterline scum starting to grip more easily again, or the surface losing its water-bead repellency, that's the signal the coating is wearing and it's time to reapply at the next drain.

Pro Tip: The "apply to a dry surface" instruction is non-negotiable — reactive silicones won't bond to wet acrylic, and applying Fast Gloss to a damp shell just wastes product and leaves streaks. After draining the spa, towel the shell dry and give it 15–30 minutes of air-dry time before applying, especially in corners and around jets where water pools. A completely dry surface is the single biggest factor in how well the coating bonds and how long it lasts.

Directions for Use

Standard Application (At Drain-and-Refill, Every 3 Months)

  1. Drain the spa completely.
  2. Clean the empty shell of any visible scum or debris and rinse.
  3. Dry the shell completely. Towel it down, then allow 15–30 minutes of air-dry time. Pay extra attention to corners, footwells, and areas around jets where water pools. Reactive silicones will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. Shake the Fast Gloss bottle gently before using.
  5. Apply Fast Gloss to the dry surface using a clean, dry cloth.
  6. Spread evenly, working one area at a time with a circular, overlapping motion.
  7. Allow the product to stand for 10–15 minutes to bond and haze.
  8. Wipe off the excess product with a clean, dry cloth — turning the cloth frequently to a fresh surface — and buff to a high luster.
  9. Repeat on any area where the desired gloss isn't achieved on the first pass.
  10. Refill the spa and resume your normal Simple Spa Care Program.

Spot Treatment (Exterior Panels & Steps)

Fast Gloss can be applied to the spa's exterior acrylic skirt panels and acrylic steps at any time — these surfaces don't need to be empty or drained. Apply to a dry, clean surface using the same circular-motion, stand-15-minutes, buff-off procedure.

Storage & Handling

  • Store in original container in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight
  • Keep tightly closed when not in use
  • Protect from freezing
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Use clean, dry, lint-free cloths for application and buffing — microfiber works best

Pro Tip: Treated shells become genuinely slick when wet — that's the water-repellency working, but it also means the footwell and seats can be more slippery than you're used to right after the first application. Take extra care getting in and out for the first few soaks after applying Fast Gloss, especially with kids or older bathers. The slickness moderates slightly as the coating settles, but a freshly glossed shell is noticeably more slippery than a dull, scummy one — which is a small price for a surface that looks new and cleans effortlessly.

Leisure Time® Brand FAQs

Can I use Leisure Time products in any brand of hot tub?

Yes. Leisure Time spa chemicals are formulated to work safely in every major brand of residential hot tub, including Hot Spring, Caldera, Sundance, Jacuzzi, American Whirlpool, Bullfrog, and others. They're also compatible with every common spa shell material — acrylic, vinyl, fiberglass, rotomolded plastic, and stainless steel.

Will Leisure Time chemicals work with my sanitizer system?

The Leisure Time line is built for universal sanitizer compatibility. Products work with chlorine, bromine, ozone, mineral cartridge systems (silver/copper), biguanide systems (Baqua Spa, SoftSoak), and salt-generated chlorine systems like the FreshWater Salt System. Specific product labels will note any exceptions.

Can I mix Leisure Time with pool chemicals or other spa brands?

We don't recommend it. Spa chemistry is sensitive, and mixing brands can lead to unpredictable interactions — cloudiness, foam, sanitizer interference, or staining. Leisure Time products are tested as a complete system; using them together gives you the most predictable results and the simplest weekly routine.

How long do Leisure Time products last in storage?

Most Leisure Time chemicals have a shelf life of 1 to 3 years when stored properly. Keep all spa chemicals in their original containers, sealed tightly, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, freezing temperatures, and other chemicals. Liquid products are most sensitive to temperature; granular products are more shelf-stable but should still be kept dry.

Are Leisure Time products safe for septic systems and drainage?

Yes — when spa water is properly diluted and drained according to local regulations, Leisure Time chemicals at residual levels are safe for typical municipal drainage. For homes on septic systems, drain spa water gradually over your lawn or landscape rather than dumping it all into the septic field at once. Always check local ordinances before draining.

How often do I need to drain and refill my spa when using Leisure Time?

Industry guidance is to drain and refill every 3 to 4 months for a typical 400-gallon residential spa, regardless of which chemical brand you use. Heavy use, lots of bathers, or high-temperature soaking can shorten that interval; light use can extend it. Regular use of Leisure Time clarifiers, filter care, and stain & scale products helps maintain water quality between fills, but no chemical regimen replaces a fresh refill on schedule.

About Leisure Time®

For more than 40 years, Leisure Time® has built spa-specific water care chemistry trusted by hot tub manufacturers, dealers, and homeowners across North America. Where pool chemicals are formulated for tens of thousands of gallons of cool, lightly used water, Leisure Time® products are engineered for the opposite extreme: small water volumes, sustained high temperatures, heavy bather loads, and powerful jet circulation. That combination puts dramatically more stress on water chemistry than a swimming pool ever sees, and it's why generic pool chemicals don't perform reliably in a spa.

The Leisure Time® line covers the complete water care picture — sanitization, water balance, clarity, stain and scale prevention, filter care, and spa surface care — and every product is designed to work together as part of the Simple Spa Care Program. That means no surprise interactions, no guesswork about what's compatible with what, and a predictable weekly routine that takes minutes instead of hours. The full Leisure Time® system works with chlorine, bromine, ozone, mineral cartridge, and biguanide sanitizing programs, and is safe for every common spa shell material.

Leisure Time® is manufactured in the USA and is one of the most widely recommended spa chemical brands in the industry — used by Hot Spring, Caldera, Sundance, Jacuzzi, American Whirlpool, Bullfrog, and many other major spa manufacturers as the dealer-recommended water care solution for their tubs.
